Lets let IBM build a computer to simulate the problem:
And, once built,
Blue Gene will spend an entire year computing the
predicted physical interactions betweeneach atom of an average-sized,
150-amino-acidprotein as it folds.
To model the process, Blue Gene’screators will use sophisticated
mathematical models of atomic interactions known as “force fields.
” No one yet knows how accurate force fields are for predicting way proteins fold,
because the computer power does not yet exist to fully test them. Blue
Gene, its designers say, will change that. According to Dennis Newns, software architect for the project,
“We ’re going into this as sort of ’blue sky’ science:
to find out what ’s happening. Are the force fields good enough?”
And do you really think they will or can do a better job than they did
predicting and controlling the weather? Decoding the 3.5 Billion cellular (helical)
human blueprint encrypted instruction code of life!
A game of reality or futility? In the 1950's scientists predicted controlling the weather.
Yet to this day, mankind and science has donenothing other than create havoc with our weather systems, and can scarcely predict the weather beyond tomorrow.
They certainly don't and can't control it! Exactly who are these scientists trying to kid?
Top geneticists appearing as guests onthe Charlie Rose show, admit that rather than the human genome project(HGP) being a real concrete
scientific advancement, it is rather, a conceptualadvancement for science and mankind (likened to landing on the moon) -"Dr. Haseltine" . They simply don't know if they've found anything worth while or not, sincethey don't really understand what they have found. All that is known forsure, is that it probably means something? What is mankind doing? Where'sGod in the Machine? We are being thought of as DNA machines, and that isall! The who's who in Genomics:
- Dr. Craig Ventor PhD psychology and Pharmacology and President of CelaraGenomics.
- Dr. Hamilton Smith, winner of 1978 Nobel prize and creating a DNA libraryfor Celara Genomics.
- Dr. Francis Collins molecular geneticist, Director of national centrefor human genome research institute at the national institutes of health.
- Dr. Harold Morris, 1989 Nobel laureate and former director of the national institute of health and president of Memorial Sloane cancer research centre.
- Dr. Arnold Slaveine, molecular biologist, and president of RockefellerUniversity.
- Dr. James Watson, molecular biologist and co-discoverer of the double-helixstructure of DNA for which he won a Nobel prize in 1962.
- Dr. Watson who won the nobel prize in 1962, says that "At ourleisure over the next 100 years while we figure out what the gene map means,we can continue to learn".
- Dr. William Hazeltine, PhD in bio-physics, Chairman and CEO of humangenome sciences.
- Dr Arthur Caplin, director of centre of bio-ethics at the Universityof Pensilvania.

If they cannot understand simple concepts, can weallow these people to tinker around with the complex 3 dimensional doublehelix coded and totally unknown human genome? What of plant genomics?

One major problem though: We will not find the true results of their
experiments for another 50-200 years at least! This is because minor
cellular disruptions may well not show up, for generations of human
life, when perhaps one day, people will suddenly start dieing from
the common cold or other current non-lethal virus.
Decoding the 3.5 Billion cellular (helical) human blueprint encrypted
instruction code of life! A game of reality or futility?
In the 1950's scientists predicted controlling the weather. Yet to this
day, mankind and science has done nothing other than create havoc with
weather systems.
Not only that! As far as figuring out encryption codes, until recently,
and only after huge resources of computing power were harnessed, man himself
has not been able to decrypt the 128 bit binary encryption algorithm that
mankind himself designed to protect and hide the contents of messages
sent over the Internet. This code was supposed to be unbreakable. Yet
it has been just recently decoded, by an mass parallel computing endeavour
by Team42.
How much success, can mankind have, decoding a 4 bit helical code of over
3 billion instructions, and what's more, what real incite will it provide
us, into what this code actually means to solve (not create new) medical
problems?
Perhaps too many Bio-scientists have been watching to much Star
Trek? Or, maybe they are simply dreaming in technicolour?
Even the relative simpler biologic finds of antibiotics of the 1950's,
1960's and 1970's, are now threatening to become more of a very temporary
solution, and possibly their extensive and excessive use, will prove to
have been a gigantic mistake. To be sure, in retrospect we will conclude
that their (antibiotics) grandeur and (time-frame) usefulness with respect
to other life forms on earth, will render antibiotics effectively non
existent (ie .they never happened).
To my mind, for something to be a real medical solution, it must work
and stand the test of time itself. Something that works for less than 1000
years, (for all intents and purposes) never worked at all (was nothing but
a blimp on the evolutionary calender). Anything that is a solution for
< 50 years, is nothing more than a medical band-aid.
Hospitalized people have increased odds against them for loosing their life.
Due to antibiotic resistant bacteria, more people die every year from hospital infections
(90,000) than from all accidental deaths (70,000), including motor vehicle crashes,
fires, burns, falls, drownings, and poisonings.
And what of the total breakdown of the so called silver
bullet called Antibiotics? That was simple enough, but
they don't work any more.
Don't even wonder why! Simply smell the inside of your
freezer, and you can smell the intoxicting smell of
antibiotics in your food, like you're in a hospital!
Conversely, testing something as radical as genetic manipulation, on
a large scale as scientists and GM giants like Monsanto are now doing,
on life forms that have evolved over millions of years, without first checking
their behaviours and consequences on a very small scale, over a period
of hundreds of years, is like gambling on a new game of which you don't
even the odds. Science may find out too late that they have been playing
a high stakes game of Russian Roulette, with the stakes being all of
mankind.

- With Cancer already on an exponential rise in the world, maybe GM foods
will end up, finishing off humanity as a species, once and for all?
- To point out a simple but powerful point against the use of Bio-technology
and genetic meddling, is:
- The case of the Irish potato famine. Although no genetic meddling was
done in todays terms of genetic fiddling, the outcome can be analogous.
When the same line (family strain) of potatoes was handed down from generation
to generation for re-planting, it actually simulated a common genetic trait.
That eventually, encouraged a fungus to attack, and wiped out all crops
which caused the famine. The outcome of this simulated playing
with genetics was not known for generations and generations, until one
day, it was suddenly and simply too late and too bad! As in the song "i
shot the sheriff", one day the bottom did fall out.
- To condense this idea into a more simple form, allow me to ask a simple
question | What is, and has been, the reason for genetic diversification
in the first place?
I would expect, that since all of nature waists so much energy, in the
seemingly functionally useless Male species, there must be some VERY important
reason for diversity and cross reproduction in every species including
plants.
- Similar to the Irish genetically SAME potatoes (in the case of their
famine), when a certain same trait is forced into all seeds (genetic modification),
by simple probability, it can be extrapolated or concluded, that eventually,
if that same trait is sought out for invasion by some virus, all that strain
of plants from those seeds, could be infected and destroyed by the same
infection.
- Further: If Monsanto modified grain or potatoes are shipped and sold
all over the world, what happens in 10+ years, if it is suddenly found
out, that all of these offspring, are or have become susceptible to a certain
virus. Then, in stead of all crops in say "Western Canada" being
destroyed, in this scenario, all crops the World over, get wiped out.
- Another angle of importance to consider: It has long been observed
by farmers, that huge yielding crops, by nature, are not very much preferred.
The reason for this, is that they have also been noted to be, very often
weak to infestation by diseases, etc. [ie.]
( farmers are then required to use huge quantities
of pesticides and herbicides to control pests, in an effort to extract
these huge yields. ?¿?¿ Excuse me, but haven't the great
increases in cancer rates, been attributed to an exactly similar yet chemical
tinkering which produced these chemical pesticides and herbicides in the
first place, and which now, GM companies are about to try out on genetics¿?¿?
)
Could it be, that once again Mother Nature; being as experienced
and qualified an EXPERT as you could get, [being
that Mother Nature has created all of life on earth over the last Millions
of years ] has by experience
noted and adjusted crops Genetically to be as productive and yet resilient
to disease and fungus as possible, and not necessarily Genetically very
productive or fast growing. Thus providing protection from disease, all
the while ensuring adequate volume of growth! Take for example, the observation
and tabling of results by the Medical profession of late.
The medical profession clearly states, that woman who grow breasts at a
very early age, are many times more likely to contract breast cancer!
All cooks, already know that the smaller the clove of garlic, the more
potent it is. The smaller the strawberry, the sweeter and greater the taste.
The smaller the grape, the better the wine, etc. etc..
- Are the buffoons at Monsanto and other GM companies so bloody smart
that they have overlooked this very simple possibility? Or, like the engineers
at Micro$oft, just going to wait until the problem reports come in before
addressing them, and then sending out genetic patches, fixes, upgrades
and memos? Seems to me the BSE problem in Europe is a clear example of
how quickly a problem in the food chain can royaly screw up everything,
and how much damage the problem can cause for everyone concerned and
how long the problem will take to clear up (if ever it can?).
-
i think, in the case of genetics, the Micro$oft model is a very un-exemplary
way of doing things, and further; their way of conducting business would
prove too be unworkable. ie. too little too late for all of mankind! I'm
afraid that genetic patches in nature, would be as unworkable as trying
to stop a hurricane in the Mid Atlantic Ocean.
The much forgotten expressions "The Cat's out of the bag" and "The die
is cast" will take on new and powerful meanings when the extent of the
soon to come problems are realized!

Molecular biologists and geneticists around
the world view J. Craig Venter as "the enemy." His critics, and
there are many, are convinced that Venter and his corporate allies are
out to seize control of vital genetic information by creating a company

Excuse me! But i expect,
that the bio-technology sector of society will NEVER get away with the
atrocities that Micro$oft has: ie. Our

Map Only a Baby Step! http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,34857,00.html
"The government has hyped the Human
Genome mapping Project a little too
much," said Thomas Wagner,
professor of molecular medicine at
Clemson University in Clemson,
South Carolina. "Once we know what
every gene in the human genome
does, then we'll know biology."
Excuse me! But all i can say to the above statement is:
YEA! We are AS FAR away from being in a medically safe and
scientifically sound position to mess with genes today, as
early man was in controlling the weather systems around
the globe with their half concocted maps of the world.
Further; I believe, that even with the accurate satellite
maps we have of the world today, we are no more equipped,
capable or able, to improve on the worlds weather patterns
(ie. re-map/re-direct weather activities), than we were in
ie. the year 1492!
On one hand, we are dealing with a map of something too big
for us to control, and on the other hand, we are dealing
with structures far too complex and tiny to accurately
fully understand or control!
(Please Someone, correct me if i'm wrong!)
The Editor
Genome is the term used to describe a complete
set of chromosomes with all of its associated genes.
Chromosomes contain thousands of genes and each gene,
in turn, is made up of thousands of nucleotides, the
basic building blocks of life. These strings of
nucleotides for entire genomes will be the focus of
the Clemson research.
Determining the entire genetic sequence will allow
researchers to identify the genes that control important
functions, such as taste or yield, and isolate those
genes from the "junk DNA" that makes up the
basic structure of chromosomes. This information can
then be shared with scientists in the United States
and other countries who are searching for more
efficient ways to meet the world's food needs.

information, genomics companies say they are the key link to discovering

Contrary to belief by many people, that decoding the 3.5 Billion
(not as in computers binary 0 or 1 coded but quatrairy 0 1 2 or 3 coded)
3 billion instructions long, wrapped in the helical coil, human blueprint
code of life containing the secret (to this date not yet DE-CODED) message.
At this juncture, i must first point out, that the secret 128 bit encryption
code developed by man himself to protect and hide the contents of messages
sent over the Internet, which was supposed to be unbreakable, has been
just recently decoded, by an mass parallel computing endeavour by Team42.
This gigantic effort by using mass parallel computing finally resulted
in breaking a man made 128 bit binary code. Now, think of what it will
take to understand, let alone play with and modify a 4 bit 3.5 billion
words long instruction message?
