I don't currently do a lot of shopping cart set ups.. ok,
I don't do any, unless it's Paypal, which is easy to set
up.
Do i need a shopping cart?
Ive never made an ecommerce site before and am
unsure about payment stuff. Im making a site that sells
8 online training courses.
What is involved in average "shopping cart"
solution?
I have seen lots of opinions from all the great
developers here on their preference for a "shopping

BROWSER INCOMPATABILITY ISSUES
Note: other SEs' (search engines) with
their respective signatures
and with too many JavaScript errors include:
MSN, google.yahoo (USA only). iwon errors
include javascript errors and blank screens upon
loading Search Engine (SE) results.
Netscape will not even allow you to upload
their engine result unless you have their latest browser!
Lycos as well has tones of javscript errors.
AOL will not even let you visit their
search engine results page that sent
a customer to your site, (ie. reverse IP).
You've got to give a password.
Altavista often will not render its search
untill you click someware on the screen.
Yet other search engines will not give you
results, unless you enable cookies, and then
if you enable them manually by clicking on
OK, we can sometimes count 20-30 cookies
before we finally receive the results!
Not only that. The same SEs' that have
all those JavaScript errors, also have
the LEAST reliable and accurate results!
Yahoo.Google, Netscape and MSN have very
poor results when conducting a search
or in fact seeing what customers wanted
from your site, VS what they were sent to!
It almost seems their DataBases are mis-keyed
so as you have the info the surfer was
looking for on your general URL, but not
on the exact page they were sent to.
Unless the surfer using these SEs' is
web savvy (knows how to use your local SE)
and also persistant, he/she will invariably
move on! LAtely, Altavista is also F.U.
Either bringing no visitors, or bringing
visitors for VERY few keywords!

have deep enough pockets to get a few really good people, in stead of
one person who obviously cannot know all that stuff very well anyway?
Expert in JAVA, JavaScript, HTML, ASP, PSP, PHP, NPH, TCL, XML,
DHTML, GEML, XDFL, SQL, DBMS, PERL, SSI, CGI, API, DBI, My-SQL, Active-X,
Photoshop, Allaires' Cold Fusion, PaintShop Pro, Netware, etc. ...
And what of network security issues and qualifications. ads' as follows
are common:
Knowledge of SSL (Secure Socket Layer), 128 bit encryption, SSLeay, stunnel,
SWAT (Samba admin. program), UNIX (.htaccess, .htpasswd, files) and chmod
command, MD5 hashing, etc...

The 4 main issues that have long been irking me, and now seemingly more than ever, causing hi-tech NASDAQ stocks to crumble, are:
1) Too many security related contortions required from
potential clients, prior to purchasing anything
on the web!
Too much security is holding back e-commerce!

2) No standards are still the standard!
-- he has fantasies about meetings he might have with standards
committees. There still are none !!!!
(forget about software compatability or standards)
[it's been that way since day one! and it's called handcuffing the public]
[The public is handcuffed to the software product they purchase, and will
remain faithful, untill death or taxes do them part!]
3) Too much invasive technology used against workers as well as
general web information gathering without consent.
People hate to be spied upon!
4) No controls on what is sold as top notch quality software!
Just think years and years ago when word processing first
came out. The competition between companies to get text to
flow around a graphic image, to get things aligned / re-
alligned properly, to create a table of contents, macro
languages, export / import info to/from other applications!
NOW! Think about now, and how hard it is to get a
simple page (properly layed out on the web) and it's back
to fiddling around as if you were working on the floor
of your apartment with scotch tape and glue. Forget about
getting a web document into M$ WORD format and back again!

A great inexpensive credit card processing integrator according to my humble estimation! Cambist Credit Card Integrator - Home Carefull though, they do not have the most secure credit card transaction interface there is, which i must say ibill also fits into that catagory. The cheap credit card transaction companies do have their drawbacks, but for a start-up EC site, with small sales volumes, i would not worry too much.
